Spatial and Temporal Changes in Wetland in Dongting Lake Basin of China under Long Time Series from 1990 to 2020

Wetland plays a pivotal role in sustaining ecosystems and adapting to climate change. This paper used remote sensing images from 1990, 2000, 2010, 2020 investigate the changes wetland Dongting Lake Basin (DLB) their possible causes. The land-use conversion matrix contribution rate were calculated 1990–2000, 2000–2010, 2010–2020, results showed that total area displayed an increasing trend, especially reservoir ponds channels across DLB 1990 2020. Forest agricultural land into accounted for main proportion, with greatest (234.13%) of forest smallest (?117.46%) between 2000. On contrary, had highest (47.96%) wetlands compared other land-cover types 2000 followed by (39.03%). rates lands 60.17% 39.02% 2010 2020, respectively. Wetlands more significant net gain (a 259 km2) Central Southern Hunan Province. More specifically, North Province decreased 45 km2 It increased over next two decades (155 22 km2, respectively). continued 149 while decreasing ?297 km2). Forestation was principal driving force promoting continuous increase wetlands. In addition, mainly related change this region, characterized reclaiming lakes earlier period returning later period. Built-up occupied small study is beneficial understanding wetlands’ dynamic past present, as well being useful management, consistent sustainable development.
